Prison no prison - [
Criminals in United States are likely enjoying the most superior privileges around the world. They are provided with not only free meals and health care, but also the RIGHT of not working. The humanistic law in the United States gives them such a right that no one can be forced to work if against their wishes. This may be fair to those prisoners, yet it also sounds completely ridiculous to me as I though the right of the majority taxpayer is violated.
First of all, when these people commit crimes, 9 out of 10 they had damaged civil properties in some way. Maybe you will argue this wasn’t true if they were hurting only people, still utilities and resources such as medication and therapy must be paid to eliminate those harmful effects. In either way, loss is incurred. Secondly, in order to seize the criminal, policy and other law enforcement agencies are employed. The money that keep these agencies operated comes from nowhere but our own pockets. Thirdly, when a criminal goes through a trial, more people and resources are involved. Lawyers, juries, and even those paper works mean no others but more money. In a word, they induced tremendous cost to all the tax payers by committing crimes.
Now they are put into prisons, where they supposed to redeem their sins, yet they are not only bringing the society no positive value at all but costing more to feed them and keep them alive and SAFT! The cost of incarceration a prisoner is estimated to be $65.41 per day, much more than my regular daily expense. What the hell is going on here? According to some reports, the fee of maintaining those prisons actually comes from the same funding pool that funds the state universities. Worse than that, it even has a higher priority than funding the education. This partially explains why State University of California is experiencing such a catastrophe in the budget cut, and it also explains why I’m so piss off here expressing my disagree to the way prisons operate. Yes, it sounds scary if prisoners are not well kept and monitored. However, one should never forget that those undereducated youths are more likely to commit crimes as they are driven by economic and social pressure. Cutting educational funding is certainly something inadvisable to do.
They should at least work, as what their Chinese counterparts do. They should at least produce something worth the value of what they damage and cost. They redeem their sins by working their ways out, not by depriving other people’s way of making their lives. One of my friends suggests we should design some sorts of exercising machines that can translate physical energy into electricity, so those prisoners can become a massive group of workers. In the thread of global warming and energy crisis, this is no doubt a potentially idea.

San Francisco mayor Newsom’s father has changed his mind. A former judge at the state Court of Appeal and a devout Catholic, Mr. Newsom came a long way in accepting homosexual people. As people asked how he made it, a personal connection with homosexual community made a call.
My dad is like that too. He just doesn’t have a chance to make that personal connection, but he is not a homophobe.
The Pope is.
A research shows that homophobic people are usually facing self denial of their sexuality. They could not accept the fact that they are actually turned on by homosexual act. If this is valid, isn’t the Pope potentially a gay man?
To those homophobes on my Facebook, please stop making personal attacks and stupid analogies. If you find me making no senses here, so did you.

A boy in my year is working on a project, a brilliant one in comparing with the rest of the second year projects in Cal poly. A five year student came to visit. This project delighted him a lot, for the concept of deconstruction (where deformation is the word more appropriate i think). In a later conversation, he said the project looked very much like Frank Gehry. He might mean to be praising the boy, yet I felt it was degrading the work of Deon .
Of course this sounds a little bit funny, but the reason I’m saying this is the fact that I’m pretty sure Deon would rather be Deon the first than Frank Gehry the second. Also, despite of the many big names in our era, from a moral perspective, I think every designer and every young architect should be given equal opportunities in presenting their own works. Their names are remembered by the public not because they resemble to any of the work that are previously attractive to us. In fact, if we appreciate them only by their appeared resemblance, we ignore the effort they had put into, as well as the process they had gone though, which for sure are very much different from the ones we saw before.
